Vessels

Vessels explores the everyday minutiae of human activity at a computer, and draws  attention to the vast amount of machine-readable and intimately personal data that computer use generates.  Using the many onboard sensors and controls on Apple Macbooks it creates a generative sonification informed by even the most mundane activities of use. The keystrokes, trackpad movement and spatial data tracked by your computer become creative gestures which inform an evolving generative composition.

Vessels runs on Mac OSX computers and can be downloaded for free here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/gje06a4xr4y1572/Vessels.zip

Vessels draws on a large (1.5GB) audio sample bank with the sonification being affected by both ‘playable’ and more oblique inputs, allowing the composition to either be consciously lead or composed passively as the listener writes email, browses, or simply watches the screen.
