Newly Forgotten Technologies: The Choir
" />

In this installation, twenty malfunctioning Amazon Echo smart speakers have been discarded amongst the dirt. Abandoned and without homes, they sing to themselves and each other, and tell stories about the world that created them.

Newly Forgotten Technologies: Five Echoes
" />

Newly Forgotten Technologies (Five Echoes) is a fiction film and live performance about the ecological impact of digital technologies, and the deep myths, fears, and hopes of humanity that they represent.

Echo REIGN
" />

Echo REIGN is an interactive artwork that re-imagines the Amazon Echo and its ‘smart assistant’ Alexa as devices in the US Army’s ‘Internet of Battlefield Things Research on Evolving Intelligent Goal-driven Networks’ (IoBT REIGN) project.

Charismatic Megapigment
" />

In this installation, a green painting by Charley Peters is analysed in detail by a robotic camera and screen roaming across its surface, built by Tobias Revell.  This camera feeds a machine learning system, built by myself, which is trained on a hand-built database of 100,000 images that have been classified as ‘green’ by Google’s own machine vision technologies.

Chthonia
" />

Chthonia is a performance lecture between the two AI voice assistants Siri and Alexa, who speak to each other through an iPhone and an Amazon Echo.

GEODESIA
" />

A performance project exploring how the current age of near-global monitoring and quantification can create new forms of process-led composition and performance.

Chthonic Rites
" />

Chthonic Rites is an installation and ‘haunted smart desk’ that hosts a conversation between the two AI voice assistants, Siri and Alexa, who speak through an Apple iPhone and Amazon Echo.

Augury
" />

Augury is an installation that draws predictions of the future from the live positions of planes in a 20km radius around it. This is an allusion to the ancient Greek and Roman practice of Augury – a method of divination performed by reading the flight patterns of birds.

Atmospheric Disturbances
" />

This ‘data mistification’ installation created new forms of expressing air pollution data through experimental aesthetic texhniques and Italian opera. It was commissioned for Milan Design Weekn 2018.

The Dark Age of Connectionism: Captivity
" />

This work explores the limitations of devices such as the Amazon Echo through a multi-channel audio and sculptural installation. Through this, it suggests new forms of behaviour for living amongst these technologies, and how the opacities encountered in their function can be responded to.

Mephitic Air
" />

This installation used its own air pollution sensors to monitor air quality in the street outside the gallery, and represent the data through critical data visualisations and sonifications, including a 14th Century English folk song about beheading the King to feed the poor.

The Dark Age of Connectionism
" />
Breathing Mephitic Air
" />

Breathing Mephitic Air is a data sonification and visualisation installation which explores new immersive methods of understanding the local and global systems of air pollution, and the data through which it is measured.

Watching Mephitic Air
" />

Shown at the DATA_SE1 exhibition in London, this installation explored what a critical aesthetics of air pollution data could be, using London’s dangerously high levels of pollution as its source.

Ground Resistance
" />

An audiso-visual installation exploring and critiquing the idea of the “always-on, 24/7 smart city” by exposing the huge gaps in time and space in the pioneering ‘MK Smart’ UK smart cities data. It employs experimental data visualisation and sonification techniques, including sampled bells from a 12th century church mapped to absences in the data.

As Above Not Below
" />

As Above Not Below is a data sonification and visualisation installation which exposes the impalpable infrastructure of international airspace, and the limits of our access to the sky above us.
